How to play Word Deduction

Open Word Deduction, check the instructions and begin a round. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Read the objective before making your first input. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Guess a five-letter answer from the included collection. Entries must contain five letters; accepted guesses are not checked against a complete dictionary.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Controls

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

An answer containing one E can award only one positive E mark in a guess containing two. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. Check the rule before repeating the action. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
